Seven Streams of Ministry For Greater Impact

Mission Statement: Healing Wings Ministries reaches out worldwide to the broken, bound and spiritually lost by offering hope through Jesus Christ.  Our mission is not only for wounded hearts to be healed, but for people to be transformed and connected with their true identity, so they can be fully equipped as God’s Ambassadors.

Vision Statement: The vision of Healing Wings Ministries is to see people restored back to God’s original design: healed, set free and made whole. We envision them transformed, operating in community, and rising up in their Kingdom identity to accomplish their purpose and dance in their destiny.

We Now Interrupt Your Program for a Florida Missions Update!

We are finally home and thrilled to have been used so mightily to advance God’s kingdom. There were so many men and women who responded to the Gospel message that we stopped counting!  Really, it’s not about the numbers anyway. Instead, it’s about each heart being touched by a loving God in such a radical way that it forever changes that life! Regardless if that happens for one person or many, it is worth the price of admission.

We were able to do multiple events in each prison, enabling us to build a level of trust and confidence with the inmates.

God knit together a phenomenal ministry team that traveled from all parts of the country:  John Swanger, our “resident” ex-offender, made the road trip with us from Denver; Rob Horton flew in from Colorado; Kenny Selweighardt flew down from New Jersey; both Marco DeSciscio and Scott Hazen were from the Florida area. These team players were able to light up the sky with their passion and their musical talent.

Here are some of the prison highlights from partnering with Solid Rock Ministry:

♦ At the men’s facility, we spent 2 days bringing men back into their destinies through music, teaching and prayer. Randy hosted the prayer room for one-on-one time with these men. Each event was packed to capacity. What an amazing display of God’s tenderness as grown men, who survive in prison by wearing a tough facade, broke down in tears when we prayed for them and their families. Many responded to the invitations given; not only salvation, but as Debbie taught on the importance of renewing the mind and taking thoughts captive, there was an overwhelming response!

♦ We spent another 2 days at the women’s facility. There was such a move of God that we’re still spinning! In the spirit, doors that had been locked down for years burst wide open. It was a time ordained by God for life changing experiences and the results were massive! In fact one of the guards came up to us exclaiming, “I’ve never seen anything like it…”

♦  John told the women they could fire the guard who has been holding their hearts and get a new boss, “Jesus,” who would protect it from then on.  Many did just that and entered a new walk in the Lord!

Debbie taught on God’s design for wholeness and the barriers (brokenness–shame/fear–unforgiveness) that block freedom and transformation.

♦ Robin illustrated how shame and fear keep you bound by sharing her story of being brutally raped at knife point. In this kind of vulnerability, many women asked for their hearts to be healed as well!

♦ Randy shared on the importance of forgiveness, then stood in the gap for all the men who had ever hurt them, then got down on his knees asking for forgiveness….oh my! Chains began breaking off these incarcerated women. All across the chapel this breakthrough anointing was busting people out of captivity!

Later that evening, we were privileged to hear many stories of how God radically touched these women.

→ Her daughter’s boyfriend had just murdered her 2 year old grandbaby 2 days ago, and the emotional pain that tormented her was horrendous. The Lord touched her heart with His comfort and healing.

→ Another was able to forgive a grandfather who had molested her for so many years.

→ She had been married to a man who abused her and wound up sentenced to prison. She was able to finally forgive him after struggling with bitterness for 37 years.

→ Another was terrified to give all her life to Christ because she had been so wounded it was hard to trust anyone. Jesus radically set her free!

→ Still another woman’s heart received such a healing touch from the Lord that it physically burned for hours.

→ One woman testified to being healed of 28 tumors when Tony had prayed for her last year!

→ Healing, comfort, forgiveness, and liberty all branded the lives of these precious women, ushering in transformation.

→ It also created a rippling effect as these women carried the message to others who hadn’t been able to come, and they too were set free and present to testify about it!

Thank you to those who participated in this extraordinary mission’s trip! Your prayers plowed the field and many, many lives have been transformed because of your loving support. Together, we have taken back ground from the enemy and tasted the fruit of victory!

Healing Wings Ministries

Texas or Bust

We finished strong today! I know you have been waiting to hear the wonderful things the Lord has done on this trip, so here I sit in a little corner at Starbucks trying to pull up all that is stored in my heart. To be able to have played a role in prisoners and the homeless opening their hearts to God and His outrageous love has been a tremendous privilege! We have ministered in many different settings, and though the settings have been diverse, the message of hope for healing and wholeness has been consistent. We have sowed seeds in the fertile soil of great need because of your prayers, support and your contributions.

Here are a couple of highlights:
(*names have been changed)

  • Jewel had come to Haven For Hope to get protection from a family that abused her and to start a new life. The unbearable pain in her heart was etched deep in her countenance. We prayed for the healing hand of Jesus to reach into those deep places and begin His work of redemption and restoration.
  • Susan wept from the shame of abandoning her children to pay the price of crime. Crack had cost her everything, not only her family, but also her vocal chords. As I prayed for her, God began to loose that which held her throat in bondage. She began to cough and gag, spitting out what appeared to be “scales” that covered her vocal chords. As people starting running over to help, I leaned down and asked her, “Is this normal?”  She said, “No, God is healing me!” I quickly reassured the many other women waiting for prayer not to be afraid. 🙂 The Chaplain told us with a grin, “I’m not letting you pray for me!”
  • Robin shared her testimony as well as her passion everywhere we went. Several women connected with the trauma of being kidnapped and violated at knife point.
  • In a few short days, many entered into the Kingdom by saying YES to Jesus!
  • Our Sozo Gathering at the Crews’ home was an amazing time of strengthening and refreshening for us as well as this house church.
  • We also experienced a weekly gathering at Smokey John’s BBQ in Dallas that calls themselves “God’s hospital.” Gathered in this place are people all ages, from different ethnic backgrounds that bring the sick and the wounded for prayer.

This has been the most unstructured trip we’ve ever done. Robin and I left home last week knowing that God would put the right people in our path with the right invitations to accept.  The new relationships we have established are enabling us to lengthen the cords and expand the tent pegs of Healing Wings. God has directed each step and provided for us in the journey. We have felt the faithful praying and have moved in strength and confidence.  This is only a beginning; there are many prisons here in Texas that were not able to accommodate us at this time due to being short handed or in “lock-down”, but next year is full of rich possibilities!

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am especially thankful for you and all who have participated in advancing the Kingdom of God in Texas.  This my friends is the Body of Christ in action, working together as God’s torch bearers to bring hope and light!

Robin and I wish you a Thanksgiving filled with reflection, for we really do have much to be thankful for!

Starting January 5, 2009, Healing Wings will be starting a 21-day fast for breakthrough in our personal lives and in our ministries. We are fasting of God’s kingdom to be established on the earth and for a foundation of justice and righteousness to rule our nations. In addition to this, we will also be praying for the salvation for our unsaved loved ones. Because we feel such a sense of urgency stirring in this hour, we wanted to extend this invitation to you to join us. For those of you who have never fasted before let me say, once you have experienced even a taste of what fasting accomplishes, you will wonder why you never fasted before!

Fasting is such a great spiritual discipline. When you fast, you are denying the flesh the pleasure and comfort of eating in order to “feed” your spirit. Your spirit becomes uncluttered by the things of this world and sharpened by the things of God. This will result in becoming more sensitive to God’s voice, His direction, wisdom and revelation. It breaks selfishness along with self-serving ways and self-centered thinking. I can’t think of a better time to accomplish this than during the time we typically set goals for the coming year and look wide-eyed with fresh expectancy into a brand new year.

Fasting creates breakthrough and opens the door for the miraculous. It is a secret weapon in your arsenal of prayer! In his book the “Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting,” Mahesh Chavda says this about fasting: “Imagine that you have been using the hand grenades of prayer to move mountains of unbelief, hindrances or demonic obstructions in your life or ministry. When you combine your prayers with fasting you suddenly drop a hydrogen bomb on the mountain that is blocking your call and divine assignment. I am not talking about a slight difference. Fasting boosts the intensity and effectiveness of your prayer at least ten fold, and often a hundredfold!”

According to Isaiah 58:8, fasting also brings healing. “Then your light will break forth like the dawn and your healing will quickly appear.” Fasting promotes health in your body because it cleanses and detoxifies your system. Dr. Don Colbert in his book “Toxic Relief,” talks about how fasting allows your body to heal by giving its organs a time to rest. He recommends juice fasting, because the juices from fresh fruits and vegetables create an alkaline environment that aid in the waste and toxin elimination process. By effectively detoxifying the body, we gain energy and metal alertness as well.

It also promotes spiritual health because you are so much more sensitive spiritually that it serves to “spring clean” your life. Issues like unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, pride, fleshly attitudes, carnality and selfishness all begin to come to the surface to be dealt with. When we fast, it literally breaks the power and control the flesh has over our life. I remember one time in particular that I was fasting my dinner every day. By the 3rd day, I could feel control that my soul had over my spirit breaking. It was absolutely amazing!

Fasting is not simply going without food; that is just dieting! Fasting is refraining from food for a spiritual purpose. Unless you put prayer with your fasting, then you will simply be hungry. You must focus on prayer and God’s Word during your fast.

By starting the year with a fast, you set the course for the rest of the year. You offer God the first fruits of your year just like you give Him the first fruits of your day. By seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, you release the principle found in Matt. 6:33 where all things will be given to you as well!

Some of my Georgia relatives go to a church that has been corporately fasting the first fruits of each year since 2000. There have been amazing testimonies that have come out of this church as a result. Testimonies of loved ones getting saved, diseases being healed and miraculous financial provision to those in dire need. One story in particular that touched my heart was of a struggling mom with a son that had been diagnosed with leukemia. After going through chemotherapy this boy was lying in the ICU fighting for his life with a 107-degree fever. On the first day of the fast, the pastor added this family to his prayers, and at that same moment the boy’s fever broke and suffered no brain damage from the high fever. In fact the leukemia went into total remission. Another member of the congregation wrote that her unsaved husband woke up in the middle of the night crying. The next morning he gave his life to Christ! In fact because of the 21-day fast, her husband, all their children and even her sister-in-law were baptized!

If one person fasting is powerful can you imagine what could happen if many people joined in? That power is multiplied! There are many churches all over the world that start their year with a fast. The largest church in the world is pastored by Dr. Cho in Seoul, South Korea. Every January 750,000 members join together in prayer and fasting. Think of the possibilities!

You may choose to do the whole 21 days without food, or you may choose to fast one meal a day for 21 days. Many people choose the Daniel Fast by eating only fruits, vegetables and raw nuts and seeds when fasting long periods of time. Whatever works best for you, just choose to consecrate this time to God and let the results speak for themselves. Whichever fast you choose, it can only be done in God’s power and strength.

Since we are fasting for breakthrough determine where you need breakthrough. Breakthrough will be different for everyone on a personal level. Don’t forget to pray and fast for our government and the condition of our country and the church as well! Also formulate a “hit list” of those people you want to come into relationship with Christ. Maybe you have been praying for years for that family member or neighbor. It truly is God’s desire that they come to the saving knowledge of who He is! Fasting won’t change their will, but it can remove the barriers that keep God from having His way with them!

Remember to spend the time in prayer that you would normally spend on your meal. You may not feel like anything is happening, but you can’t always “see” what is happening in the spiritual realm. Don’t confuse your fast with feelings. Remember, we don’t base our faith on feelings.

Drink lots of water. Many will do a liquid fast by supplementing it with juice, protein drinks, etc. You don’t need to be legalistic about it. God will meet you where you are.

We want to hear from you as well! As you join us during these days of consecration, we would love to hear what the Holy Spirit is revealing to you. Please check our website often to connect with the ministry blog. We hope to have something set up so you can leave comments and be able to report all the ways God is moving on your behalf!

Happy New Year to each of you! May this truly be your best year yet!

The Joy of Christmas Presence

“An angel of the Lord appeared to them [the shepherds] and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord…” Luke 2: 9-11

Christ the Messiah was born! The angel’s announcement to the shepherds was news of great joy! I have spent a week studying and contemplating this “great joy.” Did you know that joy is mentioned 242 times in the Bible? Ps. 45:7 says that God has anointed us with the oil of joy. Is. 61:3 says that the Spirit of the Lord will give us a crown of beauty in place of ashes and the oil of joy in place of mourning!

Oil in those days was used for many different things. One of the purposes was for personal grooming much like we use lotion today. Because of the fierce heat and dust in Israel, you would apply oil to exposed parts of the body, especially the face, because it was very soothing to the skin. However, during a time of mourning, you abstained from using oil on your skin and instead, applied ashes. What a difference between the two! Oil would make the face shine, where ashes would dull one’s countenance.

Joy is different from “happiness.” Happiness is always based on happenings. It is an emotion that comes from your circumstances. Joy on the other hand is an attitude of the heart. It comes from the confidence and security of knowing God is in charge no matter what the circumstances are. When happiness fades away, joy remains.

Happiness has no fear because nothing is wrong. Joy has no fear not because there’s nothing wrong, but because we trust God no matter what is going on. Another way to put it is that we have happiness BECAUSE of our situation, but we have joy IN SPITE OF our situation.

In Phil 4:4 Paul tells us to rejoice! This is joy in action! It is followed by the command to not be anxious about anything. Joy is not about getting rid of PROBLEMS, but of getting rid of the ANXIETY of those problems. As we actively have joy, peace guards our hearts and minds!

As I began to meditate on this idea of joy, I pictured the oil of joy flowing down from heaven and coating me much like Rain-X coats a windshield. God seemed to be showing me that His oil of joy can provide a coating over our life that causes circumstances and negativity to run off instead of penetrating. Wow! This also prohibits the enemy’s advances from penetrating and hitting its mark as well. Interestingly enough, shields used in battle were rubbed with oil so that blows from swords and arrows would “glance” off.

So, how do we stay coated with the oil of joy? The Bible says that there is the fullness of joy in the presence of the Lord. (Ps. 16:11) My friends, there is a secret place in God’s presence where we are coated with JOY. There is a place where our joy, peace and rest in the Lord absolutely intimidates the enemy! When we dwell in the secret place, we are hidden in God’s shadow and the enemy cannot find us there. So the devil’s strategy is to begin pushing all our buttons until we react, thereby disclosing where we are, because it snatches us out of the secret place and we become visible to the enemy.

I pray that God will impart to each of you a desire to spend time in the presence of the Lord this Christmas! I pray that in the coming year, you will practice time in His presence and that He imparts a covering of joy over your life. I pray that you become so saturated with this joy that wherever you go, whomever you come in contact with, your joy would “leak” out.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace to all men on whom His mighty favor, acceptance and grace rests!
